Verizon to Make Palm a Breakthrough Hit?

[Note: I'm probably going to sound a little over-enthusiastic in this post. Deal with it ;-) ...]

Fresh off of being voted Best Smartphone by Laptop Magazine readers, there are a few other reasons why Palm is likely to reach critical mass in the smartphone market. Specifically, Verizon, the US' biggest phone carrier, is creating a lot of incentives for people to chose Palm.

  • Big Price Cuts on the Device - Verizon recently dropped the price to $49... and if you buy one, they'll give you a second one. If you are going to get a smartphone for yourself and your wife or you just want to sell one on Ebay.
  • Free Verizon Mobile Hotspot - The same link as the above also mentions that Verizon Mobile Hotspot is now free, but only for Palm devices. I believe it is the only carrier and only phone that gives it for free. The ability to bring your own wifi hotspot with you is a game-changing feature. Think of all those people buying iPads... They will now be able to access the Internet wherever they go on them.
  • Special Device Upgrade Incentives - If you don't have a smartphone already Verizon is going out of their way to get you into one. You don't have to wait until your contract is up to make the move.

It's hard to imagine people won't be scooping up Palm devices in droves as news of this spreads. It's very rare in the technology world that you can get the best product at the best price, with features that cost a lot more everywhere else.
